I have over 20 years' experience working in the creative and music sectors. What I love about my work is helping talented people find their path forward, and constantly learning and developing as a songwriter myself.

 

Although I studied Film and Drama for my undergraduate degree, music was my first love. All through my teens and twenties I was in various bands, first as guitarist and then as songwriter and main vocalist. This was followed by a period as a solo artist performing around London's grassroots venues. Rock super stardom never quite happened (!) but I learned a lot about stage craft, songwriting and making connections.

I built my professional skills as a gig promoter, booking early gigs for Keane, Anna Calvi and The Magic Numbers amongst a host of other amazing artists. This led to my setting up a booking agency and building a roster of UK and international artists. I've also turned my hand at artist management, launching the career of Bright Light Bright Light.

These days I split my time between researching songwriting practice for my PhD, teaching on the BA Music Business course at Birmingham City University, creating music in my studio, being on the Board of the Music Venue Trust and being the Director of Strategic Development at Creative United.
